About me

The work that I have submitted reflects the experiences in Design that I have had so far. I see it as an ongoing personal journey in which I have so much more to learn.  I always try to make my work completely unique. I feel that I achieve this by constantly challenging myself to experiment and push the boundaries.
I describe my work as quirky, unusual and abstract. This is evident throughout the art work I have submitted.  Having taken the three design subjects of Art, Photography and Textiles, I feel that this has prepared me for applying to University. My main interest is in fashion and textiles, but having had the experience in the other subjects I feel that my skills are very broad. The ‘Development of the Lining Pattern’ piece I have submitted in the portfolio has been influenced by my experiments in colour, medium, and modern technology. The inspiration behind this was based on the designs of Alexander McQueen’s printed textiles. He incorporates modern technology to produce his prints. Having been influenced by this, I created my own design, using a sublimation printer. My work in Textiles and Art both contrast and influence each other, but I see this as a positive aspect to my work.  My strengths are in the areas of design and practical work, but I feel I could improve in my knowledge of pattern cutting. The opportunities that this course has to offer would enable me to perfect the skills that I would need to work in the fashion industry.
I have always regarded myself as a hard working and dedicated student. I am approachable and work well individually and on group projects. I am trusted by my teachers, and I always embrace the advice and criticism that they give me.
I am fully prepared to begin this course, and I feel that the work I would produce would be of a high standard for the University. I am ready to be developed as a practicing fashion student.
