About me

The work that I have submitted reflects the experiences in Design that I have had so far. I see it as an ongoing personal journey in which I have so much more to learn.  I always try to make my work completely unique. I feel that I achieve this by constantly challenging myself to experiment and push the boundaries.
I describe my work as quirky, unusual and abstract. This is evident throughout the art work I have submitted.  Having taken the three design subjects of Art, Photography and Textiles, I feel that this has prepared me for applying to University. My main interest is in fashion and textiles, but having had the experience in the other subjects I feel that my skills are very broad. The ‘Development of the Lining Pattern’ piece I have submitted in the portfolio has been influenced by my experiments in colour, medium, and modern technology. The inspiration behind this was based on the designs of Alexander McQueen’s printed textiles. He incorporates modern technology to produce his prints. Having been influenced by this, I created my own design, using a sublimation printer. My work in Textiles and Art both contrast and influence each other, but I see this as a positive aspect to my work.  My strengths are in the areas of design and practical work, but I feel I could improve in my knowledge of pattern cutting. The opportunities that this course has to offer would enable me to perfect the skills that I would need to work in the fashion industry.
I have always regarded myself as a hard working and dedicated student. I am approachable and work well individually and on group projects. I am trusted by my teachers, and I always embrace the advice and criticism that they give me.
I am fully prepared to begin this course, and I feel that the work I would produce would be of a high standard for the University. I am ready to be developed as a practicing fashion student.

The Beauty Within - Personal investigation

These images have been hand drawn using ink, water colours and charcoal. I also combined textures of masking tape and scraping techniques. The final piece is A1 scale and has been completed for a current project.

Casual day wear - Textiles

These trousers are for casual daywear. The pockets and the belt loops were made with cotton dogtooth pattern to make the fabrics contrast against each other. The delicate white stitching was an extra design feature. The pleats were added to help improve the form of the design.

Bleach and brusho - Art and Design

This image was created by using 'Bleach and Brusho' technique. The technique works by creating the image then removing the pigment with bleach. This is an A1 scale piece used as portfolio development.

Magnified Images - Art and Design

This is an A1 sized canvas which began as a mixed media piece, which was then edited on Photoshop and printed on a large scale. I experimented with many materials e.g. clingfilm, bubblewrap, mark making, sewing, acrylics and water-colours.
(I have included a 50p and a hand in the photograph to show scale).

Love Hurts - Art

I painted this picture for a mini-project. It is based around the idea of love and saddness. This is shown by the contrasting colours of the black and white background, with the light colours of the hearts. The bubble effect on the image was created by laying acetate over wet paint and creating air bubbles beneath it.

A punks business wear - Textiles

The brief for this project was 'Business Wear'. I based it on the designer Vivienne Westwood, with the punk theme in mind. I added black and white checkers and stripes to fit the theme and I adjusted the sleeve pattern to make them more bold at the shoulders.

Development of the lining pattern for my dress - Textiles

This is the development of the lining pattern I am going to create for my current A2 project's final piece. I made a flower out of scraps of purple and black fabric, scanned it into Photoshop and turned it into a mosaic pattern. This is presently being developed into a repeat pattern for the lining of a dress designed for a red carpet event.
This design is from my current A2 project in Textiles. My theme is seasons and this is the Autumn design. The stripes in the dress are panels demonstrating evidence of adapting my pattern piece. It also shows samples of decorative techniques I could use e.g. Applique, variation stitching and sublimation printing.

Black and White Catwalk

These photographs are from the Clothes Show Live. For photography, I completed a project based on fashion and I used these images as a series for my final piece. These were taken in black and white because it emphasizes the creases and shadows within the fabrics. I specifically chose these shots because they showed movement and worked well as a collection.

The Model's Shadow - Art and Design

This is an image that I painted from my current Art project. It symbolises the emotional struggle through depression. The blank face and the shadow in the image clearly portrays the intended meaning. Here I've used ink in a range of strengths, and the image was then edited in Photoshop to adjust the tones and shadows.

Life Drawing - Old Man.

This is a piece I completed in a Life Drawing workshop, in which we drew a live model in different positions. I used black chalk which emphasized the tones within the human form.
